Brief Biography
Jobert of Syria governed the Hospitallers in the 1170s.
Life and service to the Order
He succeeded Gastone de Murols and directed the Order’s affairs in the Latin East until 1177. The evidence for his personal history is sparse, but his tenure continued the governance of the hospital and its wider commitments.
In this period the Hospitallers maintained a hospital and defended their communities in the Holy Land. Their base shifted to Acre after the loss of Jerusalem, and to Cyprus after the fall of Acre in 1291.
