Roger de Moulins led the Hospitallers before the fall of Jerusalem in 1187.
Life and service to the Order
He directed the Order through growing military danger in the Kingdom of Jerusalem and was killed in battle at Cresson in 1187. His death came shortly before the defeat at Hattin and the loss of Jerusalem, which reshaped the Hospitallers’ position in the Holy Land.
In this period the Hospitallers maintained a hospital and defended their communities in the Holy Land. Their base shifted to Acre after the loss of Jerusalem, and to Cyprus after the fall of Acre in 1291.
